Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb have been at this shit for over 10 years now and are just getting around to releasing their second record. Was it worth the wait? My friend, if you like records that have a little bit of everything, covering the gamut from garagey punk to punky garage, well, Fake Nature is certainly a record.

Being (mostly) from Washington DC, SWALTB's lyrics are influenced by the rigged system with post-apocalyptic visions, or shit, maybe they're fantasies at this point. They also sing about complex socioeconomic matters like ripping off bands (generally supportive of it) and bandmates who would rather cancel band practice than ride roller coasters. The songs are mostly fast and mostly short, but there are some longer and slower ones, too, probably because good weed is easier to find these days.

I don't wanna ride Because I’m terrified I don’t wanna go Fine, I hold your phones Maybe he's too cool Might mess up his hair And while he plays skeeball Maybe he'll win a bear Curt's a brave boy He's the leader of the pack And he'll take down any threat Except a coaster track I don't wanna ride I’ll go on waterslides I don’t wanna go Don't let my girlfriend know

They see everything / You don’t care cause you hide nothing They see nothing / Everyone is hiding something So complacent / Monitor your whole existence Pray to gods / they can’t hear but someone’s listening Close your eyes hide you’ll be fine / It’s such a lie We’ll pay for our silence with razor blades / I cut my own heart out but far too late We’ll pay for non action with war and hate / Your outrage is worthless if you stand by and wait
4.
These are lies you pretend are true/better days are what you want for you Hard work was your retirement plan Offers come on the TV/Don’t you listen to that pissin’, don’t believe a word you see Can’t you see that it is all a scam? These are lies you should have not known weren’t true/but you heard them every day since the early age of two After all, wasn’t that the American dream? Buy a home for a price you can’t pay/fulfil your wishin’, bad decision, then you work your youth away When you’re underwater nobody can hear you scream Face it, pensions will get raided/and taxes get evaded/it’s dumb and complicated But I don’t think it’s true/all the things you do/staring back in the mirror with the knife in you/and I just don’t wanna ever end up like you Promises they often fail/perverse mortgage, your life is a short sale These are lies you should have not known weren’t true/but you stood a lot to gain, so they sounded good to you Why not you were just trying to get your share The future’s now, can’t save no more/you thought you were middle class, but now you learned your poor You’re not alone, it’s hardly rare
5.
Blood on the streets and there’s hell on TV the damage is clear moving on Spraypainting X’s to mark the infected and burn M.A.G.A hats to stay warm But I’m waiting for you to come home I’m soaked in red from the door to the bed Perimeter sighting of colorblinds fighting against what remains of our home Can’t think about life the same way at all ever since you left the world was a mess and I was so confusedevery step I took I just found traces of you would you take me back if I carried you Don't think about it

First time it wasn’t fake First time it was a mistake That’s when I knew what I had to do Second time I tired a bit Second time wasn’t quite a hit I swear I never really a clue Last night I thought I figured it out but then I walked away it too much Competition in composition leaves me wondering what I’ve done Third time the plan was tight Third time was out of sight I swear I never really had a clue Kinky feeling could make us rich What for revival then pull the switch I swear I never really had a clue Take a look a what worked for others, is that really stealing No need to be coy about it, make it Kinky feeling

You remember the chain gang? You held the hammer I held the sickle “All of this belongs to us” you said as we’re crawling through the mud onto freedom from the feds, I thought you meant the people But in the shower I caught a glimpse of your states rights tattoo “Everything’s earned” you said “everything burns” I said When I march for the Union, you sing the corporate gospel But when the tear gas hits the street, when the bricks begin to fly I’m singing solidarity while the cops are beating me You shot them down screaming Death or Liberty I thought we were both down for revolution But there’s a line where you decide who you really wanna be Could our love last through the riot lines the privatized corporate solutions? No you’re too crazy for me

about

(Stop Worrying &) Love the Bomb Washington, D.C.

Although (Stop Worrying &) Love the Bomb is heavily influenced by CBGB/Max's Kansas City punk, power pop, punk, and garage rock of all eras, the band's sound doesn't really fit neatly into any of the those boxes. "Nihilistic pop punk" might be an accurate description, or Post-Apoc Rock and Roll by Due Process of law.." ... more
